Overview

From the video The video's take: consumables matter this time - legacy perks boost them, materials will flood the auction house and the new recipes are cheap, so keep every long buff up. You don't have to level cooking, but know what it offers: cooked food, and the campfire system.

What's new about food

• Almost every cooked food (including the fish dishes used to level) also gives +5% experience from kills for 15 minutes - matches both the video's tooltips and the client data.
• Every stat has its own food: Strength / Agility / Intellect / Spirit / Stamina, plus attack power, spell power, healing, crit and armor. See Recipes.
• Many recipes come from vendors (cooking and fishing suppliers); others drop in dungeons or from mobs. Check every supplier when you reach a new area.

Tip Every 1-300 recipe can be found on the AH, some worth only a few coppers - don't overpay; flipping recipes may even make gold. The video says over 70% of this season's recipes are out in the world (vendors, dungeon and mob drops), so browse every shop in each new area.

New currency: Merchant's Favor

Client text: valued among trading organizations as a temporary currency. Per the video, unlike Season of Discovery you need both reputation and this currency; spend it on profession recipes, some of which also need reputation.

How: Waylaid Crates

Video: as in Season of Discovery, crates drop from mobs everywhere or can be bought on the AH. They come in journeyman / expert tiers and white / green quality, each asking for pricier materials. Hover a crate to see what it wants - any one option fills it.

• Before buying or filling a crate, check material prices on the AH; if it's too pricey, sell the crate and get a cheaper one.
• UnconfirmedVideo: your first filled crate comes with a note; clicking it starts a quest - turn it in to the NPC at the quartermasters' door for an extra 50 Merchant's Favor and 2000 reputation, first time only.

UnconfirmedThe video says turning in crates gave no reputation in beta - only the first note's 2000 - so how to raise it is still unknown, and the client's Forged Delivery Receipt value doesn't match 2000.

What it buys: Spirit smoothies

Video: the cooking recipes here are all new Spirit smoothies. Spirit is strong this time, great for casters: stop casting for 5 seconds and mana flows back, and wanding or meleeing doesn't interrupt it; they should sell well once people farm dungeons.

Campfire

From the video The campfire is cooking's other big part, a bit like survival-building games. It fills the gap when a small group can't bring every buff - the video's example: a hunter, rogue and mage leveling together only have one Intellect buff; drop a fish bowl, a chair and one more facility and you effectively gain three one-hour buffs (Kings-, crit aura- and Mark of the Wild-like).

All camp facilities share a 1-hour cooldown; sit 60 seconds for the buff (client data).

• Video: the basic campfire holds 3 facilities; learn Journeyman at Cooking 90 (5) and Expert at 200 (10). Matches the client recipes (90 / 200).
• UnconfirmedThe video says you can learn and place them at those points, but the client's toolkits require Cooking 140 / 220 to use (the video's own tooltips agree). Going by the client: learn early, place later.

How to use it

• Type /sit next to the campfire, or lie down in a sleeping bag; after a minute you get the nearby camp buffs.

From the video: rest in it at least a minute for an XP bonus, stacking to 3 (1-hour cooldown).

• Many camp buffs don't stack with class buffs (last column below); they scale a little with your level.

Video: later on you'll see crowds in camps full of odd facilities. The table shows each profession's level-20 facility; at 140 and 300 they upgrade, keeping the buff and adding things like workbenches.
